Golden Gate

(Map of Wall)
The Gate has a beautiful structure of two arches: The one to the north is called the Gate of Repentance, and the one to the south the Gate of Mercy. In 1530 the Ottomans had this gate completely blocked up with stones. During the time of the crusaders it was opened only twice a year: on Palm Sunday, and on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Afterwards, Saladdin blocked the gate with a wooden door to protect Jerusalem from the East.
