Zion Gate "Bab Al-Nabi Dawoud"

( Map of Wall )
Located in the South Wall towards the West. It was restored in 1537-1542 A.D. In Arabic it is known as Bab Nabi Dawoud, 'the Gate of the Prophet Dawoud', because a Weli Dawoud is located, according to the legend, on Mount Zion. Extensive excavations on both sides of the gate have brought interesting remains of virtually all periods in the city's history. The current opening was widened by the Jordanians during Hashimite rule of the city.
